Getting In Shape With Triathlon Sports
If you hear the word triathlon, you probably immediately think of the ironman triathlon, the grueling Olympic sport that only highly trained athletes can complete.
While you may not have the ability or desire to compete in an ironman trithlon, you can still use triathlon sports to get into shape. Training for a triathlon is a great way to get into shape for several reasons:
- Swimming, running, and biking exercise different muscles
- Entering in a triathlon gives you a deadline (and so helps with the discipline aspect of getting into shape)
- The variety of three different sports helps keep triathlon sports fun
If you’re just starting in Triathlon sports, you can train for and enter in a sprint triathlon. This race usually consists of a half mile swim, a twelve mile bike, and a three mile run. While these distances aren’t super easy, they are very achievable.
How do you train for a triathlon? It’s really not hard. Start slowly, and rotate sports. For example you, might run on Monday, swim on Tuesday, Bike on Thursday, and do a short triathlon on Saturday. Continue to increase your distances each week until you’ve reached your goal.
Of course, your local library can help you learn how to train for a triathlon. One excellent book you should read is Triathlon Training Basics by Gale Bernhardt.
