Yoga May Help Cancer Patient’s Develop Healthier Immune Systems

The National Cancer Institute is funding a study to determine whether yoga can actually also help cancer patient’s develop a healthy immune system. Dr. Janice Kiecolt-Glaser of Ohio State University Medical Center is going to conduct the study by involving 250 women having breast cancer.

As part of the study, these 250 women will take a 90 minute yoga class on a weekly basis and their observations would be recorded. They will also do yoga at home. Scientists say that if these women agree that yoga makes them feel better, they will then go ahead with blood tests of these women.

The blood samples collected after a period of 3 months will be compared with blood samples taken at the beginning of the experiment. By looking at the stress hormones present in the blood, the test is aimed at finding out if yoga is able to make the immune system strong and affect fatigue. Scientists will observe these women closely to find how their bodies are reacting to yoga.
