Video Games: A Healthy Alternative?
There was a time about 10 years ago when video games were the target for much scrutiny. Parents

But a recent video posted on CNN.com sheds a new light on the future of video games and their affect on children’s health. Games such as Dance Dance Revolution and the new Wii Fit are bringing the positive effects of exercise into the limelight and opening children’s eyes to how fun exercise and getting healthy can really be.
My Stepfather’s nephew played Dance Dance Revolution a few hours a day, for a month straight and lost close to 40 pounds. This was all done within his own home, and amazingly enough, he was enjoying himself while getting his body into a healthy state. New studies are also showing that physically disabled children are using motion-activated games from consoles like the Wii to help in re-strengthening their damaged muscles. The advertisers who thought of this marketing strategies deserve an award for their brilliance. In order to reach out to children and get them to listen, we need to target those things that mean the most to them, and in today’s technology driven society, that includes video games.
How far video games will go to teach children the importance of exercise remains to be seen. But from looking at the current situation, it seems that they are most definitely on the right track.
