The Health Factor Of Various Meats
Nearly everyone loves a grilled burger or a chicken breast fried or baked in the oven. But how healthy is your steak, burger or chicken?
To help choose what meats to buy for the meat nights on your dinner menu here is a list of meats and their fat content.
Bacon – sometimes a dinner option but it shouldn’t be. It contains 16 grams of fat per 100 grams. Bacon is high in nitrates, a common cancer cause, plus it is high in salt.
Beef – 5 grams of fat per 100grams. Half of that fat is mono unsaturated. Beef should be a once or twice a week menu item.
Chicken - Skinless it contains about 3 grams of fat per 100 grams. Fried chicken with the skin on is going to be way higher than that.
Duck – Has 11 grams of fat per 100 grams. This fat is more saturated than chicken or turkey. Duck is a source of iron and zinc.
Ham – 3 grams of fat per 100 grams. As with bacon it has a high salt content. Have it at Thanksgiving and Christmas only. The rest of the time it is good to avoid.
Lamb – 8 grams of fat per 100 grams. High fat content. Have in moderation.
Pork – About 4 grams of fat per 100 grams.
