Be Ye Doers – Not Hearers Only

beerpizza.jpgWhen one looks around at our society today it is easy to be simply disgusted. The reality is that we know so many things about health and how to be healthy. Yet, we don’t bother to implement the things that we know to be true.

Ours is a society that is based on what is most convenient and choosing the easiest path. Therefore, we are overloaded with fast food restaurants and convenience stores that fill our dinner plates with unhealthy foods. Sure, we make excuses. “I am too busy running the kids around to make dinner” we say. Or, “I only get 45 minutes to eat lunch, so I have to grab something on the go.”

Have you ever considered the irony of these statements? If you are a soccer mom that is grabbing Mickey D’s after soccer practice because you don’t have time to cook, you are sending some seriously mixed messages to your children. First, you encourage them to participate in sports because it is good for their physical, emotional, and mental health. Then, you take them home and plug their arteries full of fat and unhealthy foods.

The same is true when it comes to the excuses we make about eating lunch at fast food restaurants. We claim we don’t have much time at lunch, so we have to eat fast food. The reality is that driving through a drive through window generally takes more time than preparing something good to eat at lunch time. In fact, if you take a few extra minutes in the morning to pack a healthy lunch, you might have enough time to eat lunch and take a little walk during your lunch time.
