When Terrorist Attacks Aren’t Nearly as Scary as Losing Your Health Insurance…

In October of 2007, the Kaiser Family Foundation released the results of a poll which showed that more Americans were worried about not being able to afford their health insurance versus being in a terrorist attack, losing their job or losing their house. However, that wasn’t so unreasonable back then and is certainly not unreasonable now, with health insurance premiums at an all time high.

It seems like gas prices and the cost of health insurance has gone up while people’s earnings have not done as well. In fact, though many will not utter the “R” word, it is definitely becoming increasingly apparent that the United States is facing some sort of economic crisis. One of the major issues facing the health care system is how to limit health-care costs. The political debate over universal healthcare versus the Republican view of making individuals more responsible is still an major issue that many are anxious to see played out with whoever is elected as the next president.

In the meantime, there are hundreds upon thousands of people who do not have ample healthcare coverage, if at all, in the United States because of how expensive healthcare is or because of how expensive they think it is. There are some health insurance companies who are offering their customers incentives as well as various options for alternative plans at lower costs to help take some of the financial burden off their shoulders. But in addition to the added expense of healthcare as well as gas prices, the price of food has also been rumoured to have gone up, which makes most of us choose between having healthcare coverage, buying gas or eating. What do you think about the cost of healthcare?
