Student Health Insurance - A Good Buy?

Now that school is back in session, you may have received an application through the school for student accident insurance. Understandably, many parents have questions:

  • What does accident insurance really cover?
  • Does it protect above and beyond my standard insurance policy?
  • Is it a replacement for health insurance if my child has no standard insurance policy?

Student health insurance plans will likely differ depending on the insuring company and your area of the country. But typically, student health insurance plans will only cover

  • Sickness and accidents (some only cover students on campus during school hours, some cover accidents anywhere in the world)
  • Accidents that occur while playing school related sports (make sure that your child’s sport isn’t excluded)
  • Injuries incurred while traveling on a school vehicle during a school organized activity
  • Dental injuries sustained during school or playing school sports

These plans do not cover preventative care treatment.

These types of plans can be pretty costly. One covering sickness and accidents anywhere in the world, excluding accidents obtained through football, can cost more than $900 per year.

Many schools require that students prove that they have insurance before playing sports. For parents that don’t have insurance, student insurance may seem like the only option.

However, what most parents don’t realize is that they could get a comprehensive health insurance plan from a leading provider for the same amount or less per month. Health insurance plans for school age kids can be quite affordable and many parents we talk to are surprised at the amount of coverage they can receive for their child.

  1. what you want to convey ?i think for you the insurance is
better to choose than focusing on our future?i know we need it
and we must get it as early as possible .
but this is not the right way to show it

  2. what i think is that since the child is also an integral part of the family . hence he /she also needs a better future and and a protected uture
