Health Insurance for Kids - What Most Parents Don’t Realize

silly kidThe other day I was at a kid’s birthday party. As one mom stood at the sliding glass door watching her daughter climb a tree in the backyard, she said to herself, “oh pleeese don’t get hurt… Mommy doesn’t have health insurance!”

This is not an uncommon situation. In fact, the person hosting the party was a small business owner and she and her children didn’t have health insurance either! I asked why they didn’t have insurance, knowing the answer already. As an insurance agent, the reason most people say that they don’t have insurance is almost always “cost.”

What I told them got them so interested that I really felt I needed to share here on the blog. It’s true, health insurance can be expensive for families – even though there are many, many creative family plans that cost less than most people expect.

But what really perked them up was when I suggested they get a health insurance policy for their kids. Sure, they are concerned about themselves, but they were both riddled with guilt over not having coverage for their kids. It is very possible, very easy, and very inexpensive to get a health care policy just for a child or children.

It’s so important to do this while they are young and healthy. You never know what might happen. With most quality health care providers, if you were to find out later that your child had a health condition that required long term treatment, your rates would not increase because of the condition.

The policy you get for them now can be their policy for life so that they too don’t end up without health insurance whether they’re between jobs, starting a business, in the process of a divorce, or whatever other curveballs life may through that can leave a person without insurance.

So if you are one of the many tens of thousands of parents out there looking for a health care coverage solution for your kids, I certainly encourage you to check out plans just for kids. You might be surprised at how affordable they are. If you’re in North Carolina, call us at IBD, 919 510-5980
