Our Agents and Our History

Jim Price

In 1993 Jim Price opened Jim Price Insurance Services, a one-person health insurance practice, to sell Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina® (BCBSNC) Health Insurance as a broker in Raleigh, North Carolina. In 2002, Jim changed the name of the company to Innovative Benefit Designs to more accurately reflect the changing focus of his business to include group insurance.

Jim Price is actively involved in the health insurance industry not only from the perspective of selling insurance, but has also been nominated and selected the past 6 consecutive years as a member of the Leading Producer Round Table. Being a member of the Triangle Association of Health Underwriters for the past 6 years, while being elected as Board Member for 3 of these, he contributed input and ideas which have helped influence the fast-paced evolving insurance market. Jim Price has also been selected by various carriers to represent Field Advisory Boards which seek insight from a broker's perspective to conduct market research and analysis on consumer trends to develop new products. He has also earned the True Blue^SM Producer status with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina® for over the past 8 years.

Bill Moore

In January 2004, Bill Moore joined Jim Price as a partner to accommodate the growing group health insurance business, with Bill adding his expertise in ancillary and retirement plans. The company name changed again to its current name: IBD Insurance Services, Inc., to express a more easily-recognizable identity.

Bill Moore oversees the day-to-day operation of the company. He has been in the insurance business more than eight years, after spending sixteen-plus years as an engineering manager at what is now Progress Energy. Bill utilizes his analytical skills in developing solutions for our more complex issues. In our office Bill spends most of his time keeping abreast of the changing senior market and consulting for the group life, disability and key person insurances. Bill delivers speeches on a variety of strategic benefit issues. He is a published author and has been featured on CBS and in numerous newspaper articles.

Andrea Hunnicutt Grater

Client support and service at IBD come naturally to Andrea, an expertise founded in her previous career in Human Resource management and recruiting for major NC companies which included Club Corp of America (owner of Pinehurst Resort), the Promus Hotel company (now part of Hilton Hotels), Cisco Systems and Mitsubishi Electric. Andrea also brings 5 years of health insurance industry experience to IBD, including two years working directly for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina®.

As IBD Account Manager, Andrea often acts as a liaison between the client and the insurance carrier, and generally helps to simplify the enrollment process. Her primary role is to assist customers with administering their health insurance plan. She is available to answer any benefit, claims, or billing questions. She also offers support when new employees are hired, and can assist with assessing probationary periods as well as pre-existing waiting periods.

Johnny Thomason

Johnny Thomason Jr. has had an extensive career in health care benefits, including several years with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina®. He has worked in multiple divisions, including the North Carolina State Health Plan, Federal Employee Program, providing support to various companies with 250 employees or more. He has also been the recipient of several awards, twice receiving the Golden Eagle Award which is the highest sales achievement honored by the National Association of Health Underwriters.

An integral part of the IBD team, Johnny currently specializes in new business development, primarily implementing and managing employee benefits.
